Pledge to Oppose the “Personhood” Amendment

I PLEDGE to oppose the “Personhood” Amendment.

I BELIEVE it is wrong to ban abortion in cases of rape and incest. It is wrong to punish women who become impregnated by their attackers.

I BELIEVE in respecting women. Important personal and private decisions about birth control, fertility treatments, and whether or not to end a pregnancy that threatens a woman’s health should be made by women with their families, doctors, and faith leaders—not the government or politicians.

I OPPOSE criminalizing medical care. Doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals need to be able to put their patients first—ahead of politicians, lawyers, and the courts.

I OPPOSE attempts to eliminate the separation of government and religion. I support religious freedom and oppose enshrining a singular religious belief in our state constitution.

I OPPOSE the sweeping legal consequences of the “Personhood” amendment.

I OPPOSE the “Personhood” Amendment because

THEREFORE, I officially declare my opposition to the “Personhood” Amendment, and will inform voters and/or my constituents that the amendment goes too far. I understand that a copy of this pledge will be used in campaign efforts to defeat the “Personhood” Amendment.
