Resolution in Opposition to “Personhood” Amendment

WHEREAS

is an organization working to promote the independence, health and well-being of Coloradans; and

WHEREAS we oppose governmental intrusion into people’s personal lives; and

WHEREAS we support a woman's right to make her own decisions about her health care, and believe women should have full access to a wide range of medical treatments and procedures; and

WHEREAS we oppose criminalizing doctors, nurses and medical professionals for providing legally and constitutionally protected health care to women and their families; and

WHEREAS the “Personhood” Amendment would codify the beliefs of one particular religious tradition as the law of the land, in direct opposition to the American values of freedom of religion and the separation of government and religion; and

WHEREAS the “Personhood” Amendment would be a legal nightmare established in the Colorado Constitution and could be used to impact literally thousands of laws in the State of Colorado; and

WHEREAS we believe the vagueness of the “Personhood” Amendment would result in far-reaching medical and legal consequences for the people of the state of Colorado if it were to pass on November 6, 2012:

THEREFORE be it RESOLVED, that this organization officially declares its opposition to the “Personhood” Amendment and together with the coalition of organizations opposing this measure, will work to contribute resources, educate its members, and defeat the Amendment: and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution will be transmitted to the opposition’s campaign, for use in campaign efforts to defeat the “Personhood” Amendment.
