Coloradans Reject New Definition of Person By An Almost 3-1 Margin
Amendment 48, sometimes called the "personhood" amendment, was a sneaky attempt to ban abortion, even for rape and incest victims or to save the health of the woman. It would have banned birth control in Colorado and impacted literally thousands of Colorado laws.
Coloradans voted to protect a woman and her family’s personal, private medical decisions and to keep the government from intruding in our doctor-patient relationships--just as we did in 2000 and 1998.
Working together the NO on 48 Campaign told the truth about this deceptive amendment. The Campaign is honored and humbled to have worked with such wonderful volunteers, activists, donors, and organizational partners.
Consider the following:
About 5,300 people joined the NO on 48 Campaign. And, that doesn't begin to count the activists, volunteers, and donors to the more than 80 state and national organizations that made up our broad-based, bi-partisan coalition.
Together we distributed 300,000 pieces of literature, 10,000 yard signs, attended more than 130 speaking engagements, and gathered more than 20 newspaper endorsements.
But, our campaign was so much more than that.
Thousands of people joined together to protect personal, private family decisions. Because we live in a society that must respect the deeply held convictions of many, thousands of people joined together to stop a narrow minority with an extreme political agenda from rewriting the Colorado Constitution. Because changing the defintion of "person" in the state constitution would have impacted thousands of laws, thousands of people joined together to prevent a legal nightmare in Colorado.
Amendment 48 simply went too far.
Thank you, Colorado
