In 2008, Amendment 48 tried to define the term person to include a fertilized egg in our state constitution.
This Amendment was the first of its kind and was being pushed by a narrow minority with an extreme political agenda. It lost in every county in the state and 73% of voters rejected it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ---October 14, 2008 Contact: Crystal Clinkenbeard, NO on 48 Campaign, Communications Director 720-989-7693(cell) Denver, CO (October 14, 2008)— The No on 48 Campaign, a broad-based coalition of medical and legal professionals, grassroots groups, and community organizations across Colorado, has launched its first statewide television advertisement, “Seen It Before.” The ad addresses the fact that extremist groups have tried to impose their agenda on Coloradans before, and voters have soundly rejected it. The ad began running in TV markets across the state on October 13, 2008. “Amendment 48 is bad medicine, bad law, and bad policy. It could outlaw abortion in Colorado, even for surivors of rape and incest, or to protect a woman’s health,” said Crystal Clinkenbeard, spokesperson for the NO on 48 Campaign. “Amendment 48 would create a legal nightmare for our state. Colorado voters have rejected this kind of extremist agenda before, and they should do so again by voting No on 48. It simply goes to far.” The ad can be viewed here: http://www.box.net/shared/71fvi2gzby
