"This amendment puts politicians, lawyers, and the courts between a woman and her doctor. The real intent of this measure is ban all abortions in Colorado, specifically for victims of rape and incest," said Monica McCafferty, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Spokesperson.

Denver, CO (August 6, 2012)—Today proponents of a "Personhood" Amendment, which would ban all abortions in Colorado, submitted signatures in an effort to qualify for the November ballot. The NO on Personhood Campaign argues that the amendment will put politicians and the government into our personal lives.
The NO on Personhood Campaign is prepared to defeat this intrusive measure. Campaign spokespeople explain with the following statements:
"The real intent of this measure is ban all abortions in Colorado, specifically for victims of rape and incest," said Monica McCafferty, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Spokesperson. The amendment's language says, "no innocent child created through rape or incest shall be killed for the crime of his or her father," which forces women to carry pregnancies to term.
Coloradans defeated similar amendments in 2008 and 2010. Like previous attempts, this amendment does not respect women and their families. "Every woman and her family should be trusted to make personal decisions," said Lorena Garcia, Colorado Association for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights, Executive Director.
The NO on Personhood Campaign claims that the amendment would send Colorado backward. "If passed, politicians and the government will violate our privacy. The definitions in the amendment are so confusing that the government could investigate miscarriages, dictate the kinds of birth control we use, and interfere in medical decisions about fertility treatments," said Emilie Ailts, NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado, Executive Director.
"Politicians and the government should not intrude in our personal lives. The decision to end a pregnancy is a personal decision, best left to a woman, her family, and her faith—not politicians and lawyers," said Jeremy Shaver, The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, Executive Director.
